DETENTION
The LaSalle Parish Schools shall use detention as a means of discipline that may reduce the number of suspensions and thereby reduce the amount of absences. Detention shall be held before or after school, or during recess. It shall not be more than one hour before or one hour after school. It shall be the parent's responsibility to ensure attendance.
Since detention is to be used as an alternative to suspension, children should not be assigned detention for minor offenses. When in detention, students must bring enough materials to occupy the entire time. Students that do not cooperate in detention may have another day added to detention or may be considered for suspension.
The time, location, and number of days of detention shall be established by each school.
