    1. Applicant must complete and pass on-road driving test administered by the LaSalle Parish School Board Transportation Supervisor.

    2. The LaSalle Parish School Board Transportation Supervisor will be responsible for determining if applicant meets the minimum competency requirements as stated in Louisiana Department of Education Bulletin 119, Section 3, and the LaSalle Parish Transportation Department Policy and Procedure manual.

    3. Each applicant must have a minimum of four (4) references.

      1. Two references must be from past employers.

      2. Two references must be personal, non-family, character references.

    1. Each applicant being considered must be personally interviewed by the LaSalle Parish School Board Transportation Supervisor.

    2. Each applicant should have at least a high school diploma, or the equivalent thereof, and should demonstrate the ability to follow detailed, written instructions and the ability to record and report data accurately.

  1. Determining the most qualified operator available:

    1. Seniority on the substitute list (substitute list: refer to section II-D of the Transportation Department Policy and Procedure manual) is one of many factors used in hiring a bus operator for a regular route, however, it is NOT the single determining factor.

    2. Proximity to the route is a factor in hiring for a regular route, however, it is NOT the single determining factor.

    3. A co-operative attitude is a MUST.

    4. The applicant must display willingness to follow directions and accept the decisions of the LaSalle Parish School Board Transportation Supervisor, without rebuttal.

NOTE:

The Transportation Department cannot guarantee a certain amount of work.  Substitute bus operators must prove their reliability and willingness to go beyond the call of duty to regular bus operators as well as to the Transportation Supervisor.  This will be a positive reinforcement towards an applicant being recommended to the Superintendent of the LaSalle Parish School Board for a Regular Bus Operator Route.

    1. The applicant must display emotional stability as well as the ability to work well and have rapport with students, parents, school personnel, and other bus operators.

    2. Vacant route will first be offered to contract bus operators, and employment will be based on seniority as a full-time employee of the LaSalle Parish School Board.  In the event where there are no contract bus operators applying for the route, the route will then be offered to substitute bus operators. Hiring of substitute bus operators to fill vacancies will be based on the following factors:

      1. Proximity

      2. Co-operative attitude

      3. Willingness to follow directions and accept the decisions of the LaSalle Parish School Board Transportation Supervisor, without rebuttal

      4. Emotional stability as well as the ability to work well and have rapport with students, parents, school personnel, and other bus operators; and

      5. Seniority (seniority will be based on the number of days the bus operator has worked as a substitute.)

Hiring a substitute for a permanent bus route will be based on all of the above factors.  The final decision will be the recommendation of the LaSalle Parish School Board Transportation Supervisor.
