The LaSalle Parish School Board met in Regular Session on the above date with the following members present:

 

Mrs. Dawn Stott

Mr. Jonny Fryar

Mrs. Maple Book

Mrs. Virgie Wilson

Mrs. D’Juana McCartney

Mr. Buddy Bethard                                   

Mr. Dolan Pendarvis

Mr. Charlie Anderson

Mr. Melvin Worthington

 

             The following member was absent:  Dr. Walter Creel

 

             The meeting was called to order by the President, Buddy Bethard who also led the opening prayer.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Bethard.

 

             On a motion by Mr. Worthington, seconded by Mrs. Wilson the Board voted to approve the minutes of the Special Meeting held September 8, 2014 and the Regular Meeting held September 8, 2014 as reproduced and distributed.

 

             On a motion by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Fryar the Board voted to renew the contract of Glen Joiner as Principal of Jena High School for a period of two years effective December 5, 2014 and ending December 4, 2016, as recommended by the Superintendent.

 

             On a motion by Mr. Worthington, seconded by Mrs. Stott the Board voted to renew the contract of Janet Tullos as Principal of Goodpine Middle School for a period of two years effective January 1, 2015 and ending December 31, 2017, as recommended by the Superintendent. 

 

             On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Mr. Anderson the Board voted to create a temporary maintenance position at the Maintenance Level #2 scale, effective October 6, 2014 for an undetermined amount of time.

 

             On a motion by Mrs. Book, seconded by Mrs. Stott the Board voted to receive the personnel report, as recommended by the Superintendent.

 

PERSONNEL REPORT FOR OCTOBER 2014

 

NEW EMPLOYEES:

 

Luther Ray Brandin, janitor at Jena Junior High School effective for the September 24, 2014 for the remainder of the 2014-2015 school year (replacing Nola Bouie).

 

RESIGNATIONS:

 

Cherridy Seamans, Olla Elementary janitor, resigns position effective September 17, 2014.

 

Alicia Williams, School Bus driver, resigns position effective October 17, 2014.

 

TRANSFERS:

 

Transfer Randy Neal, janitor at Jena Elementary School, as a temporary replacement in the Maintenance Department effective October 7, 2014 for an undetermined length of time (replacing Steve Vickers while on sick leave).

 

Currently advertising the following positions:

Child Nutrition Manager at Jena Jr. High School

Janitor at Olla Elementary School

 

             On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to pay all degreed employees (positions requiring a degree) that are employed on December 1, 2014, a one-time stipend of $827.00 as prorated based on previous state raises, with stipend to be paid with the December, 2014 payroll disbursement, as recommended by the Finance Committee.

 

             On a motion by Mr. Fryar, seconded by Mrs. Book the Board voted to pay all support employees that are employed on December 1, 2014, a one-time stipend of $579.00 as prorated based on months of contract, with stipend to be paid with the December, 2014 payroll disbursement, as recommended by the Finance Committee.

 

             On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Mrs. Stott the Board voted to accept or reject the high bids received for the sale of the following vehicles located at Jena High School Auto Mechanics Shop:

            

             (1)         1996 Blue Ford Ranger, VIN #1FTCR1OU8TUD05061

             (1)         1996 White Mercury Tracer, VIN #1MELM13P4VW628775

 

             On a motion by Mr. Fryar, seconded by Mr. Anderson the Board voted to accept the high bids received for the sale of the above mentioned vehicles located at Jena High School Auto Mechanics Shop.

 

             On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Mr. Fryar the Board voted to approve the following Policy Revision necessary for compliance with the 2014 Legislative changes and as recommended by Forethought Consulting:  JBCE  Public School Choice

 

             On a motion by Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mrs. Book the Board voted to approve the following Policy Revision necessary for compliance with the 2014 Legislative changes and as recommended by the Finance Committee:  GBRIBA   Family and Medical Leave

 

             On a motion by Mr. Pendarvis, seconded by Mr. Anderson the Board voted to grant out-of-state travel for Greg Davis, maintenance personnel, to attend the “Alto-Shaam Service Training Seminar” in Jackson, Mississippi, and the “Thermo-Kool” training to be held in Laurel, Mississippi with the expenses to be shared by Child Nutrition and Maintenance.

 

             On a motion by Mr. Worthington, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to modify the 2014-2015 school year calendar to dismiss school on November 4, 2014 in observance of Federal Election Day.

 

             On a motion by Mrs. Stott, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to approve the Proclamation declaring October 20 - 24, 2014 as National School Bus Safety Week.

 

             On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Mr. Fryar the Board voted to approve the Proclamation declaring October 27 - 31, 2014 as National School Lunch Week - “Get in the Game with School Lunch”.

 

             Closing comments included appreciation to those in attendance, including Sammy Franklin, representing the news media and Walter Dorroh, Board Attorney, and congratulations to Glen Joiner and Janet Tullos on their contract renewals.

 

             On a motion by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to adjourn.

 

             The meeting was closed with prayer by Mr. Anderson.
