The LaSalle Parish School Board met in Regular Session on the above date with the following members present:

             The meeting was called to order by the President, Buddy Bethard and led with prayer by Mrs. Book.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Bethard.

 

             On a motion by Mr. Fryar, seconded by Mrs. Wilson the Board voted to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting held August 4, 2014 and the Special Meeting held August 19, 2014 as reproduced and distributed.

 

             On a motion by Mr. Worthington, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to renew the contract of Scott Windham as Supervisor of Maintenance and Transportation for a period of two years effective December 1, 2014 and ending November 30, 2016, as recommended by the Superintendent.

 

             On a motion by Mrs. Book, seconded by Mrs. Stott the Board voted to receive the personnel report, as recommended by the Superintendent. 

 

PERSONNEL REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 2014 

                                                              

NEW EMPLOYEES:

 

Heather Davis, teacher at LaSalle Junior High School effective for the 2014-2015 school year (replacing Dawn Book).

 

Suzanne Rogers, teacher at Jena High School, effective for the 2014-2015 school year (replacing Stephen Tharp).

 

Gary Jones, teacher at LaSalle High School, effective for the 2014-2015 school year (replacing Zackary Almarode).

 

Jenny Lynn Paul, teacher at Jena Elementary School effective for the 2014-2015 school year (replacing Susan Allbritton)

 

Megan Overstreet, para-professional at Jena Elementary School, effective for the 2014-2015 school year (replacing Cindy May).

 

Emma Newhouse, janitor at Jena High School, effective September 1, 2014 for the remainder of the 2014-2015 school year (replacing Joanna Doughty)

 

RE-HIRE:

 

Patrick Willis, teacher at LaSalle High School effective for the 2014-2015 school year.

 

RESIGNATIONS:

 

Cindy May, Special Education para-professional, effective August 12, 2014.

 

Jenny Lynn Paul, Bus Driver, effective August 11, 2014.

 

RETIREMENT REQUESTS:

 

Sherri Smith, secretary at Goodpine Middle School, requests retirement effective December 13, 2014.

On a motion by Mrs. Book, seconded by Dr. Creel the Board voted to approve the Resolution granting the Superintendent the authority to initiate, negotiate, and sign for the Effective Schools Initiative Grant agreement between the Rapides Foundation and the LaSalle Parish School Board. 

 

On a motion by Mrs. Stott, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to approve the changes to the LaSalle Parish Pupil Progression Plan as recommended by the Pupil Progression Plan Committee.

 

On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Dr. Creel the Board voted to approve the following new Policy and Policy Revisions necessary for compliance with the 2014 Legislative changes and as recommended by Forethought Consulting:

On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Mr. Anderson the Board voted to adopt the 2014 - 2015 LaSalle Parish School Board Budget and Budget Resolution as recommended by the Finance Committee.

 

On a motion by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to advertise for bids for the sale of the following vehicles located at Jena High School Auto Mechanics Shop:

 

             (1)         1996 Blue Ford Ranger, VIN #1FTCR1OU8TUD05061

             (1)         1996 White Mercury Tracer, VIN #1MELM13P4VW628775

 

On a motion by Dr. Creel, seconded by Mrs. Stott the Board voted to accept the low bid submitted by Petron, LLC in the amount of $207,000 for the construction of bathrooms at Jena Junior High School, as recommended by the Finance Committee.  One “NO” vote submitted by Mr. Anderson, Ward 9.

 

On a motion by Mr. Fryar, seconded by Mrs. Wilson the Board voted to receive the LSU Ag / 4-H Program Bi-Annual report presented by Kim Evans.

 

On a motion by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to recognize Justin Norris with a presentation of the Employee of the Month Program to Dolan Pendarvis.  Mr. Pendarvis was nominated by the staff of Nebo Elementary School for mowing the ground, fixing a water leak and exterminating yellow jackets.

 

Closing comments included appreciation to those in attendance, including Sammy Franklin, representing the news media and Walter Dorroh, Board Attorney, prayers for Howard McCarty, congratulations to Scott Windham on a well deserved contract renewal and appreciation extended to Kim Evans and the 4-H program.

 

On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Mr. Fryar the Board voted to adjourn.

 

The meeting was closed with prayer by Mr. Bethard.
