The LaSalle Parish School Board met in Regular Session on the above date with the following members present:

Mr. Charlie Anderson
Mr. Melvin Worthington
The meeting was called to order and led with prayer by Mr. Bethard. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Bethard.
On a motion by Mrs. Stott, seconded by Mrs. Book the Board voted to appoint Mr. Jonny Fryar as School Board Member for Ward II effective May 5, 2014 for the remainder of the term ending December 31, 2014. Mr. Walter Dorroh, Assistant District Attorney and legal counsel for the School Board administered the Oath of Office, and Mr. Fryar takes his seat as Board Member for Ward II.
On a motion by Mrs. McCartney , seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting held April 7, 2014 as reproduced and distributed.
On a motion by Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mrs. Book the Board voted to receive the personnel report, as recommended by the Superintendent.
PERSONNEL REPORT FOR MAY 2014
REHIRE:
Rehire LaSalle Parish School Board instructional and support personnel for the 2013 - 2014 school year. (See Pages 15 - 19)
NEW EMPLOYEES:
Robyn Smith, Personnel Director/Technology Coordinator/Testing Coordinator at the Central Office effective July 1, 2014 for the remainder of the 2014-2015 school year.
Joseph Anding, janitor at Fellowship Elementary School effective May 1, 2014 for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year.
RETIREMENT REQUESTS:
Sharla Wilbanks, teacher at Jena Elementary School, requests retirement with an effective date of May 23, 2014.
Karla Salter, teacher at LaSalle High School, requests retirement with an effective date of May 23, 2014.
RESIGNATIONS:
Zachary Almarode, teacher at LaSalle High School, submits his resignation effective May 24, 2014.
Jim Summers, Bus Driver, submits his resignation effective May 30, 2014.
CONTRACT RENEWAL:
Deedra Zeagler - renew two year contract effective June 4, 2014 - June 5, 2016
On a motion by Dr. Creel, seconded by Mr. Anderson the Board voted to accept the proposal for electrical design services in the amount of $15,600.00 submitted by John J. Guth Associates, Inc. for the renovation of electrical systems at Olla Elementary School.
On a motion by Mr. Pendarvis, seconded by Mr. Worthington the Board voted to approve the revisions to the 2014-2015 Pupil Progression Plan.
On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Mr. Fryar the Board voted to accept the high bid received for the sale of used Trophy Shop Equipment located at LaSalle High School. Bid Sheet follows:

On a motion by Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Anderson the Board voted to appoint the Jena Times/Olla-Tullos Signal as Official Journal for the LaSalle Parish School Board for the time period beginning July 1, 2014 and ending June 30, 2015, in accordance with R.S. 43:150 and R.S. 43:174.
The Board recognized Mrs. Rhonda Russell, Principal of Jena Junior High School, who introduced Coach Austin Whatley and the Jena Junior High School Baseball Team, winners of the State Championship for Junior High School level athletes. Mr. Glenn Joiner, Principal of Jena High School commented on accomplishments by Auto Mechanic’s team who won 6th in State, Jena High School Band received high scores of 1's and 2's in State, the Literary group also placed well, and The Jena High School Girls’ Softball Team won 2nd in the State and the players and coaches were highly commended for representing LaSalle Parish with dignity and honor. Mrs. Robyn Smith introduced three Jena High School freshman students: Emily Drewett, Sarah Guinn and Rachel Terry. These students presented a video which they filmed, acted in, edited, and submitted in the Digital Video Production event at the recent FBLA State Leadership Conference held in Lafayette. The team placed 2nd in the State and qualified for the National competition for their video pertaining to the topic “Going Green”.
Closing comments included welcoming Mr. Jonny Fryar back to the School Board, extending congratulations to the above mentioned groups, appreciation to those in attendance and for students, faculty, administration, and news media.
On a motion by Mr. Fryar, seconded by Mrs. Book the Board voted to adjourn.
The meeting was closed with prayer by Mrs. Wilson.
