The LaSalle Parish School Board met in Regular Session on the above date with the following members present:

Mr. Charlie Anderson
Mr. Melvin Worthington
The following member were absent: Mr. Howard McCarty
The meeting was called to order and led with prayer by Mr. Pendarvis. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Bethard.
On a motion by Mr. Pendarvis, seconded by Mrs. Book the Board voted to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting held February 3, 2014 as reproduced and distributed.
On a motion by Mrs. Book, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to receive the personnel report, as recommended by the Superintendent.
PERSONNEL REPORT FOR MARCH 2014
RESIGNATIONS:
Kimbel Harris, janitor for Fellowship Elementary School, effective March 1, 2014.
Joanna Doughty, janitor for Jena High School, effective March 31, 2014.
RETIREMENT:
Steve Long, Principal of LaSalle Junior High School, requests retirement before July 1, 2014 with a definitive date to be determined at a later time.
NEW EMPLOYEES:
Employ Daisy Romero as a janitor at Jena High School effective March 11, 2014 for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year (replacement for David Allbritton).
FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE:
Terri Taylor, teacher at Olla Elementary School, was approved for Family Medical Leave in February, 2014. Revise the ending date of her leave from March 21, 2014 to March 7, 2014.
CONTRACT RENEWAL
Debbie Finlay, Business Manager, four (4) year contract effective July 15, 2014 and ending on July 14, 2018
POSITIONS TO BE ADVERTISED:
Advertise for the position of LaSalle Junior High School Principal.
Advertise for the position of janitor for area schools.
On a motion by Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mrs. McCartney the Board voted to accept the low bid received from Virginia Wrecking Company in the amount $118,699.00 for the demolition project at the old Jena Elementary School site and the alternate bid of $43,399.00 for the demolition project at the Nebo Elementary School site. On a motion by Mr. Worthington, seconded by Mrs. Stott the Board voted to accept the high bids received for the sale of used equipment located at the old Jena Elementary School.
On a motion by Dr. Creel, seconded by Mrs. McCartney the Board voted to approve the proposal submitted by Forethought Consulting for conversion of the present Policy Manual to the customized software program, CAPS, at a cost of $19,900.00 and in addition, the inclusion of Board minutes, as recommended by the Finance Committee.
On a motion by Mr. Pendarvis, seconded by Mrs. Wilson the Board voted to appropriate $3,200 to assist with the maintenance of the ball fields located at the Jena City Park.
On a motion by Mr. Worthington, seconded by Mrs. Wilson the Board voted to approve out-of-state travel for Debbie McCartney to attend the Regional Homeless Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas on April 28 - 30, 2014, as mandated in the McKinney-Vento Grant.
On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Dr. Creel the Board voted to approve the revised Policy JCDAE “Student Use of Personal Electronic Devices for grades 9 - 12", as recommended by the Education Committee. (See Pages 10a - 10e)
On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Dr. Creel the Board voted to approve the revised Policy JCDA, “Student Code of Conduct”, effective for the 2014-2015 school year as recommended by the Education Committee. (See Pages 10f - 10q)
On a motion by Mrs. Book, seconded by Mrs. Stott the Board voted to approve a Pilot Program comprised of the revised Policy, “Student Use of Personal Electronic Devices for grades 9 - 12" and Policy JCDA, “Student Code of Conduct” sections #30, #32 and #33, for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year and as recommended by the Education Committee. (See Pages 10r b- 10v)
On a motion by Mrs. Stott, seconded by Mr. Anderson the Board voted to add two (2) days to the 2013-2014 school calendar as make up days for bad weather days.
On a motion by Dr. Creel, seconded by Mrs. Stott the Board voted to adopt the 2014 - 2015 school year calendar.
On a motion by Mrs. Stott, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to approve the Resolution stating the LaSalle Parish School Board’s intention of joining other Louisiana school systems in a class action lawsuit entitled “St. John the Baptist Parish School Board, et al vs. State of Louisiana, et al; No. 622, 693, Sec. 24.
On a motion by Mr. Worthington, seconded by Mrs. Stott the Board voted to re-advertise for the sale of used trophy shop equipment located at LaSalle High School.
Closing comments included extending appreciation to those in attendance and best wishes for students and faculty during upcoming testing.
On a motion by Dr. Creel, seconded by Mrs. Book the Board voted to adjourn.
The meeting was closed with prayer by Mrs. Book.
