The LaSalle Parish School Board met in Regular Session on the above date with the following members present:

The meeting was called to order and led with prayer by Mrs. Book. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Pendarvis.
On a motion by Dr. Creel, seconded by Mr. Worthington the Board voted to accept nominations for a School Board President for the year 2014.
On a motion by Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mrs. Book the Board voted to nominate Mr. Buddy Bethard as School Board President for the year 2014.
On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Mr. Worthington the Board voted to cease nominations and seat new Board President, Mr. Buddy Bethard.
On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Mrs. Book the Board voted to accept nominations for a School Board Vice President for the year 2014.
On a motion by Mrs. Stott, seconded by Mr. Anderson the Board voted to nominate Dr. Walter Creel as School Board Vice President for the year 2014.
On a motion by Mr. Worthington, seconded by Mr. Anderson the Board voted to cease nominations and seat new Board Vice President, Dr. Walter Creel.
On a motion by Dr. Creel, seconded by Mrs. Stott the Board voted to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting held December 9, 2013 as reproduced and distributed.
On a motion by Mrs. Stott, seconded by Mrs. Book the Board voted to receive the personnel report, as recommended by the Superintendent.
PERSONNEL REPORT FOR JANUARY 2014
EMPLOYEE RESIGNATIONS:
Suzan Nelson, janitor at Nebo Elementary School, effective December 20, 2013.
Ashley Cockerham, teacher at Olla Elementary, effective December 31, 2013.
David Allbritton, janitor at Jena High School, effective January 7, 2014.
CONTRACT RENEWAL:
Rhonda Russell, Principal, Jena Junior High School - renew contract for a period of two years, effective February 1, 2014 through February 2, 2016.
NEW EMPLOYEES:
Britannica McCoy, teacher at Olla Elementary School effective January 6, 2014 for only the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year (replacement for Ashley Cockerham/Rona Barbo).
Zachary Almarode, teacher at LaSalle High School effective January 6, 2014 for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year (replacement for Micky Roark).
Stacy Jackson, janitor at LaSalle High School effective January 6, 2014 for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year (replacement for Andrew Steven Dunn).
EMPLOYEE TRANSFERS:
Sheila King, Acting Principal at LaSalle High School to Principal at LaSalle High School effective October 1, 2013 with a two year contract.
Dillon Long, teacher at LaSalle High School to teacher at Goodpine Middle School effective January 6, 2014 for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year (replacement for Greg Deason).
Chasity Sherril, paraprofessional, transfer from Jena High School to Jena Junior High School, effective January 6, 2014 for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year.
Janice Nolker, paraprofessional, transfer from Jena Junior High School to Jena High School, effective January 6, 2014 for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year.
On a motion by Mrs. Wilson, seconded by Mrs. McCartney the Board voted to modify the 2013-2014 school calendar to include Wednesday, January 15, 2014 as a professional development day.
On a motion by Mrs. McCartney, seconded by Mrs. Book the Board voted to authorize the construction of a covered walkway at Jena Elementary School at a cost of $12,574.00, as approved by the Finance Committee.
On a motion by Mr. Pendarvis, seconded by Mr. Anderson the Board voted to suspend the rules and add an item to the agenda.
On a motion by Mr. Pendarvis, seconded by Mr. Anderson the Board voted to Recognize Mr. Perry Watson of Yeager, Watson & Associates for a presentation of a demolition plan for the old Jena Elementary School site. Mr. Watson informed the Board that he had prepared the documents to receive bids for the demolition of a portion of the old Jena Elementary School, with an estimated budget of between $300,000 - $310,000. The newspaper advertisement will run for a period of three weeks, beginning January 23, 2014.
On a motion by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to suspend the rules and add an item to the agenda.
On a motion by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Pendarvis the Board voted to authorize Mr. Perry Watson of Yeager, Watson & Associates to advertise for the receipt of bids for the old Jena Elementary School demolition project.
Closing comments included extending appreciation to those in attendance, congratulations to Mr. Bethard & Dr. Creel as 2014 President and Vice President with best wishes for a successful New Year, and also, as outgoing 2013 President, Mr. Pendarvis was offered gratitude and acknowledgment of a job well done.
The staff and students of LaSalle High School recently experienced the passing of a fellow student; condolences and prayers were extended not only to the family, but also the staff and students.
Superintendent Roy Breithaupt presented Mr. Dolan Pendarvis with an honorary gavel for his service as President of the LaSalle Parish School Board during the 2013 calendar year.
On a motion by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Worthington the Board voted to adjourn.
The meeting was closed with prayer by Mr. Bethard.
